The Malaysian Grand Prix has been cancelled for the second consecutive year because of rising Covid cases and consequent entry restrictions in the country.
A statement released by MotoGP reads that “the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting entry restrictions for Malaysia oblige the cancellation of the event.”
Due to take place between the 22nd and 24th of October, it has been replaced by a second race at the Misano World Circuit in Italy. There has been no calendar change, however, meaning the two races at Misano will be a month apart. The first will take place on 19 September and is followed by a race at the Circuit of The Americas in Texas, USA, two weeks later on 3 October.
The change also means that Valentino Rossi’s final home race will be at Misano on 24 October.
The last race at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia was won by Maverick Vinales for Yamaha in 2019.
