Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2026.
The Scotland captain has made 177 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Hull City for £8m in 2017. He has been instrumental in Liverpool’s success under manager Jurgen Klopp, winning the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, and European Super Cup in his time there.
The 27-year-old is the fifth member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad to extend their contracts in recent weeks after Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, and Virgil van Dijk all penned new deals.
Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Robertson said that “I think it’s no secret that I’m happy at this club.”
“I want to stay at this club for as long as possible and to extend my stay, it’s always a happy time for me, for my family. We’re settled here, we love everything about this football club and I’m glad that the journey is continuing.”
“I want to make more [stories] and obviously hopefully starting with this season. We want to achieve more, we want to bring hopefully more trophies, more happiness to this club. The only way of doing that is by working hard and having the same application that we have done since day one.”
Robertson is yet to make an appearance this season after injuring ankle ligaments in a preseason draw with Athletic Bilbao. He was on the bench in the victory over Burnley at the weekend, however, also being included in Scotland’s squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers.
There’s no place I’d rather be! Love it to bits here, it’s home. Thanks to everyone for the incredible support from day one until now. My focus is on working even harder so we can achieve more great memories together #YNWA pic.twitter.com/5vPrOPaLXN
