Kane, who has scored 166 Premier League goals for Tottenham in 246 games, had told the club at the end of last season that he wanted to leave. He has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer, with the Manchester club making a £100m offer for the England captain in June.
He appeared to be pushing for the move to City, not turning up for preseason training when scheduled to amidst news that he had a gentleman’s agreement with Chairman Daniel Levy that he could leave providing City met Levy’s evaluation.
He was consequently fined by Tottenham despite releasing a statement saying “I would never, and have never, refused to train.”
Whether that means Kane will stay at Tottenham for the long-term is difficult to say. With three years still to run on his contract, however, and Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland available next summer for €75m, many saw this summer as Kane’s main opportunity to leave.
Kane came off the bench to make his first appearance in Tottenham’s 1-0 win at Wolves at the weekend. The North London club welcome Pacos de Ferreira tomorrow evening in the Europa Conference League qualifying play-off, needing to overturn last week’s 1-0 first leg defeat.
