Dixon to ride in MotoGP again as McPhee moves up to Moto2

Yamaha Title

Jake Dixon will get another chance riding in MotoGP, partnering Valentino Rossi at the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team for next weekend’s Aragon Grand Prix.

Dixon, 25, rode the injured Franco Morbidelli’s YZR-M1 at last weekend’s British Grand Prix, his first experience riding a MotoGP bike.

With a ride on the satellite Yamaha team still available for next season, it is another chance for the Briton to impress.

One of several riders in contention for the ride, however, he will need to do better than he did at Silverstone where he finished last of those that completed the race, 21 seconds behind the next rider on the road. It is also likely to be his last chance riding for the team in MotoGP this season, with Andrea Dovizioso partnering Rossi from Misano onwards as he gets used to the bike after signing with the team for 2022.

Fellow Briton John McPhee will fill in for Dixon in Moto2, taking his seat on the Petronas Sprinta Racing Team.

A Moto3 rider for the same team, it will be only the second time McPhee has ridden a Moto2 bike, and the first time he has raced one. While enduring a difficult season thus far, the 27-year-old has shown promise during his 10 years in Moto3, claiming three wins and 14 podiums.
