The Argentinian Grand Prix has been cancelled for the second consecutive year, MotoGP have confirmed today.
Originally postponed at the start of the year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, there had been hope that a race at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit could go ahead in the final quarter of the season.
Unfortunately, with travel restrictions, it was not logistically possible to hold a race there, meaning Argentina joins Argentina, Thailand, Japan and Finland as races cancelled this season.
A huge fire at the circuit in February also caused significant damage to the pitlane and the paddock, a further reason behind the cancellation.
With Argentina no longer on this year’s calendar, an 18-race season has now been confirmed.
13 of the 18 rounds already completed, MotoGP heads to Misano next, with the Yamaha of Fabio Quartararo leading Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia at the top of the championship by 53 points.
