British rider Cal Crutchlow will ride for the Factory Yamaha team at next weekend’s British Grand Prix.
He will replace Maverick Vinales after Yamaha announced that they had mutually decided to part ways with the Spaniard with immediate effect.
Crutchlow, who finished second at Silverstone in 2016 when riding for LCR Honda, is Yamaha’s test rider. He has ridden the last two Grand Prix for the Petronas Yamaha team, filling in for the injured Franco Morbidelli.
With Morbidelli still injured, Crutchlow’s promotion to the Factory team means fellow Brit Jake Dixon will ride for the Petronas team.
Currently a Moto2 rider for Petronas, Dixon will be making his MotoGP debut at his home Grand Prix. It will also be the first time multiple British riders have been on the grid for their home Grand Prix since Crutchlow, Bradley Smith and Scott Redding lined up at Silverstone in 2018.
